Spotlight: Elie by Elie Saab

Anyone who knows me knows that I am an absolute sucker for weddings, and anything related to them. Dresses, decor, flowers, cake... I love all of it. However, being the fashion nerd that I am, when I'm at a wedding (or reading about one), my first point of interest is always the dress. Is it an A-line or a ball gown? Sweetheart neckline or bateau? Tulle or silk? Even though I don't plan on getting married for a long, LONG time, I'm fascinated by wedding dresses. Maybe it's because of their gorgeous detailing, and the fact that they're (more or less) always the same color, which makes it easier to focus on said detailing. But another thing I'm an absolute sucker for? Elie Saab. He is my absolute favorite designer, and has been for a while. So what do you get when you combine Elie Saab and weddings? A really, really gorgeous collection, and one very happy Kat. This particular label is called Elie by Elie Saab, and I'm absolutely in love. Here are a few of my favorites:

Fall Uniform

Hey hey everyone! Apologies for the hiatus. But I'm back, with more to talk about than ever, because it's the best season of all: fall. How basic white girl of me, right? But come on... what's more satisfying than crunching through leaves while shoving cider and doughnuts from the local cider mill into your mouth (wait, maybe that's just a Michigan/midwest thing)?  Anyway, I figured that today I would share one of my go-to outfits for the season. It's no mystery that you need a good coat for fall, and I found mine about 2 years ago. It's called the J.Crew Field Jacket, and it's amazing. It comes in a few colors, but the olive green version is dear to my heart. Throw some leggings, a good sweater, a statement necklace, a killer bag, and some boots into the mix, and you're good to go. I usually wear some variation of this outfit to class, meetings, or other occasions when I want to look polished, but casual.

Spotlight: Oasis

Recently, I've come to love a Britain based brand called Oasis. It started when I came across this dress  on Pinterest, only to find that it was a few years old, and therefore gone. I was determined to find the next best thing, so I headed over to the Oasis site, and the rest is history. The brand offers lots of beautiful florals, adorable dresses, and breezy, feminine pieces. I've got my eye on these for my summer wardrobe:

Dior Resort 2015

Wednesday evening, Dior showed its Resort Collection for 2015 in a Brooklyn warehouse. Dior in Brooklyn? A bit unusual at first glance, but I love it! It's great to see that designers are beginning to show in the outer boroughs and break away from the typical Manhattan venues. Alexander Wang broke the barrier back in February with his show at the Navy Yard's Duggal Greenhouse, and I'm hoping that more designers follow suit! The collection itself certainly didn't disappoint, with plenty of breezy, feminine silhouettes and gorgeous prints. Even though Raf Simmons has only been at Dior for two years, he seems to be doing quite well for himself! Here are my favorites from the show:

The Met Gala

A lot of people refer to The Met Gala as the Oscars of the fashion world, and rightfully so. It is easily fashion's biggest night, and all eyes are on its guests and their ensembles. It's on my bucket list to attend... hey, a girl can dream, right? As always, the red carpet showed some hits and (huge) misses. Here are my favorites from the big night:

Style Inspiration: Skirts

As we head into spring, I'm certainly looking forward to skirt weather. I'm one of those people who isn't the biggest fan of pants, aside from leggings. Yes, yes, I know. Leggings aren't pants, but I have a tendency to wear them like they are, particularly in the wintertime. Anyway, I find skirts and dresses so much more elegant and freeing, plus they aren't constricting like my favorite skinny jeans. I love you, dark wash cigarette cuts, but sometimes you just aren't that comfortable. Today, I've compiled a few ideas on how to style this season's flouncy skirts. Take a look:

Florals

Miranda Priestly once said, "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking." While she is right that florals are quite commonplace for this time of year, there's a reason they always come back. I know that nothing makes me feel prettier than a bright floral dress or full skirt with some cute flats. I'm off to New York in just a few short weeks, so I fully plan on going shopping and adding some blooms to my wardrobe. I've got my eye on these pieces:
